Everybody wants to be on TV?

Today I was introduced to the reality of television by SEAN (SEAN NOT SHAUN) WALSH, at 10 am on the dot, the doorway was locked and the unfortunate late comers were left outdoors for a while before being reminded that the 10 o`clock news starts at 10, not 10 by 10. Our first job was to read names of places in the United Kingdom from the whiteboard, sounds easy but was in fact very difficult as nobody got a single one right.

We then were shown a picture of a news package put together by some second year students which was of a really good stock and showed us the standard of work expected if we chose Television as one of our two specialist areas. With the conditions outside extremely cold, Sean decided it would be decent to direct us out in groups with cameras to film some vox pops and a man to camera.

Before Sean explained to us that video was roughly the people, for the masses and that we should always Take The Camera, before explaining a few different camera shots; Mid Shots and Close Ups, the family was put into groups of 3 to get three vox pops of world view of the Student demonstration in London following the promulgation of the wax in tuition fees from the current 3,290 pounds per year, to up to 9,000 pounds per yr and three Pieces to Camera from each extremity of the group. Scouting for Girls sing that "Everybody wants to be on TV" yet whilst we set about trying to reach our three vox pops we realized that this statement from Scouting for Girls is a lie, in fact no adequate human being wants a camera in their case and the ones that do are all on Big Brother.
My comment to the grouping was to suggest speaking to Benjo- Head of the UCA Student Union. I approached him and he was kind enough to bring us his clock to partake his watch with us. When we later got back to put the material onto the computers I realized that Lisa`s piece to camera was an introduction, I had through a span and Lewis had through a closing Piece to camera without none of us realising at the time.
I felt that I could have been more alive in asking people if they would have us their opinion but the shyness will eventually fade (hopefully) and besides I could have been more alive in getting to grips with Adobe Premiere Pro, Lewis had exploited the package before in his college days so it would have been best for me to see the ropes before our real editing starts tomorrow. Our group could have also scripted our P2C`s as they were off the top of our heads, and the picture that will be uploaded will prove this clearly.
TV isn`t for me, I`m not a person floating on an ego and I see it easier to carry through typed word rather than the spoken form. Confidence has a vast section in this so maybe one day I might be on TV giving my opinion but until that day I`m rather glad to be typing it.
