Scouting For Girls get a break

Scouting For Girls are having the sentence of their livesAmira Hashish02.09.10

With one of the catchiest songs of the class under their belts and deal more where that came from, Scouting For Girls are having the sentence of their lives. The South Ruislip lads took time out of their busy schedule to talk London, fame and a 'weird but amazing' collaboration with Kit Kat...

The album Everybody Wants To Be On TV has been a smashing success. Its single This Ain't A Love Song shot straight to turn one. Did you ask it to be such a big hit?Greg Churchouse: We knew it was an amazing song but we never envisaged it going directly to enumerate one.

Roy Stride: When we gave in the album demo to the disk label they said they didn't think there were any singles on it. This Ain't A Love Song was the low course on the show and it proved everyone wrong. It did make us a patch to come up the previous album but we give an amazing fan base. We have made a few new fans on the way as well.

How are you cope with the fame? The title Everybody Wants To Be On TV came about because for our previous album there was ever the trick that our lot was very big but no one knew what we looked like. A pair of months before the latest record came out I got my haircut and our video was performing in the background. The hairdresser still had no idea who I was. But this time around we do get recognised a lot more. Now, we are really lucky with the charge of recognition we get. People say hello but it's not crazy.

Do you remember people like you because you look to be having fun with your music?Roy: We ask what we do very badly but we're having the sentence of our lives. We had proper jobs for 10 years before we got any form of break. I was at uni and so I was running at Carphone Warehouse. So yes we are all about having fun.

Tell us about your new interactive project with Kit KatRoy: Kit Kat approached us with this thought to do an augmented reality gig for them. If you buy a limited edition Kit Kat it has a code which when held up to a webcam sees us pop up on the screen. It is one of the weirdest things I get always seen but it is amazing. It looks like we are acting in 3D on your computer.

They then asked us to do a pop up gig at Merc in Carnaby Street which was streamed live on MySpace.

You are exploited to playing huge venues but has your Carnaby Street gig whetted your appetite for busking?Roy: Well, I once busked when I was16. It lasted nearly 5 minutes, I bottled it and went home. I made 17 pence and it be me 3 to get there.

What is the better piece of your job?Greg: Getting to go round the world. We were in Australia recently which is amazing. Germany is always great too. Things are bubbling over there at the second and getting exciting.

Where do you like spending time in London? We come from the outskirts of London and grew up in Ruislip. That is where all our friends are so we know going back. There isn't much on offer for a night out though. We have had scores of good nights and gigs in Camden. Our record label came downward to see us at the Dublin Castle. You can see some amazing upcoming bands there. For all its faults, Camden is silent where everything is at in many ways.

What do the following few months have in stock for you?We are passing to Germany and support One Commonwealth there. We are doing Jimmy's Farm Harvest Festival and also playing the Elvis Forever concert in Hyde Park. Also, we are always writing and thought around the following album. You do a lot of waiting around when you are on tour so we are constantly getting creative and running on new stuff.

Scouting For Girls are teamed up with KIT KAT Chunky and My Place to do a one-off on Carnaby Street. Visit www.myspace.com to see the live streaming of the gig. The Scouting For Girls gig will sign the launching of a UK tour of pop-up break time gigs with bands playing in Brighton, York and Manchester throughout September.Check www.myspace.com for details of more performances.
